A few entries ago, I had every intention of fully returning from my hiatus. I swear it. Unfortunately, you can't always plan for the things that are headed your way. These past nearly two months have been awful whirlwinds of sleepless nights and lots of tears.
It all started with gut-wrenching coughs. Not mine, mind you, but Bodhis. He would wake up in the middle of the night and literally cough until he got sick. Of course, I took him to the doctor and there was talk of acid reflux and asthma. I have allergy-induced asthma and they say that it can be genetic. (Go science!) However, the actual testing for such things can't be done until he's six years old.
A week later, when the tiny inhaler didn't work, we went back to the doctor. This time, his doctor found that he had double ear infections. Yippee. She told me to leave him on the reflux medicine because the antibiotic for his ears could possibly make him sick to his stomach.
That was a COMPLETE understatement. He ended up so sick that he couldn't keep food down for three days and we had to take him to the ER. He avoided eating for two days after. We were told to stop giving him any of his medicine.
For a few days he seemed a lot better. We continued our plans and went on our vacation to South Carolina. One day in, he broke out in a full-body rash. It was a Sunday and I couldn't even call the doctors office. We ended up finding out he'd gotten a virus which his body was trying to push out via the rash. He was miserable, but it went away after three days.
When we came home, he was just... Unhappy. He spent all of his time whining and pulling on my clothes. He's usually such a happy baby. This was truly odd for him and it continued for about a week.
Wednesday morning he had a runny nose and that was all. Jarrett and I decided to go ahead with our plans to take a day trip to Little Rock. By the end of the day, he was breathing so quickly that I didn't see how he hadn't passed out. He really was having a stinkin' asthma attack! We went back to the ER.
Seven hours doesn't seem like a long time until you're at the ER, you know. They figured out that his double ear infection was back full-force and they had to give him a breathing treatment to slow his breathing down enough for us to be able to take him home. That took almost thirty six hours to get back to normal.
Today, he's two days into his new antibiotic and seems okay. Hopefully he'll stay that way. Even so, I've decided to take work at a slower pace by going back to substitute teaching. By doing so, I can stay home with Bodhi as much as I need to.
Ugh. It's all so much. Jarrett leaves for Basic Training in two months and we have A LOT to do before he goes. We did get more back on our taxes than we thought we would, so we budgeted in some presents for ourselves (a 32G iPod for myself and a laptop for Jarrett) and I get to new phone because mine is breaking down.
Also, my puppy is baking in his mamas tummy right now! (See previous post, "A Gift for Myself".) We somehow ended up being lucky enough to score pick-of-the-litter of the boys and I'm SUPER excited!
Thank you so much to anyone out there who reads the tidbits I post here. You have no idea how much I appreciate you all!
